Juergen Franz


Jürgen Franz was born in Rödermark near Frankfurt, Germany. Receiving his first lessons at the age of 12, he was a student in the Dr. Hoch´s Conservatory Frankfurt and started his studies at the “Musikhochschule Frankfurt”. He studied with Jean Claude Gérard, Maxence Larrieu, and James Galway.


Jürgen Franz became a member of the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra and played Principal Flute in the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. Since August 2000, he has been a member of the radio orchestra NDR in Hamburg with such conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Günter Wand, Christoph von Dohnany and Thomas Hengelbrock. Jürgen has performed as solo flute in the Philharmonic Orchestra from “La Scala di Milano” with notable conductors including M. Rostropowitsch, Ricardo Muti, and Charles Dutoit. He also was a member of the Richard Wagner Festivalorchestra in Bayreuth with conductors like Christian Thielemann. Lorin Maazel invited Jürgen to play as solo flutist with the orchestra “Symphonica Toscanini“.


Mr. Franz has performed on CD’s and radio broadcasts throughout Germany, France, Japan, USA, and Switzerland. He has performed concerts with Maxence Larrieu, Davide Formisano, Hening Lucius and is a frequently seen guest at European flute festivals.

Jürgen Franz is Professor at the Musikhochschule Hamburg and at the Hamburger Konservatorium. He has given masterclasses in Germany, China, Spain, USA, and Japan. Mr. Franz has been a Haynes Artist since 2013 and performs on a 19.5K gold flute.
