Astrid Bjelland is a 24 year-old flutist from Norway. She obtained her bachelor and master’s degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Ulla Miilmann, graduating with the highest mark possible at her final recitals. In 2019, Astrid studied with prof. Mario Caroli at Hochschule für Musik Freiburg during an Erasmus exchange.
From autumn 2022, Astrid will pursue the Zertifikatsstudium Meisterklasse (soloist diploma) at Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in the prestigious class of Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht.
Her professional experience as an orchestral musician, includes a one-year contract as co-principal flutist in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, as well as contracts in Copenhagen Philharmonic and Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. Recently, Astrid won trial weeks as solo flute in the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
Astrid started playing the flute at the age of 7 at the local music school in a small countryside town southwest of Norway, with teacher Michaela Tetens. In 2012 she was accepted to a talent program at the University of Stavanger, and later at the Grieg Academy in Bergen with prof. Anders Ljungar-Chapelon and Gro Sandvik.
Astrid has distinguished herself in national and international competitions, most recently being awarded 1st prize in the Yamaha Music Europe Scholarship Competition 2022, Tampere Flute Fest Competition 2021 and was selected to participate in the 10th Kobe International Flute Competition 2021. She has performed as a soloist in concerts series and festivals in Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Finland and China, and played in masterclasses with flutist such as Emmanuel Pahud, Andrea Lieberknecht, Emily Beynon, Vincent Lucas and Robert Langevin.
Astrid plays a Haynes custom 14k gold flute with a 19k head joint and is honoured to be a Haynes Young Artist.
