Douglas DeVries, a flutist celebrated for his versatility and passion, is Principal Flute of the San Antonio Philharmonic and Adjunct Flute Professor at Houston Christian University. He is also a founding member and flutist with the Monarch Chamber Players, one of Texas' most rapidly growing chamber ensembles, having performed nearly 300 concerts since its inception in 2020.

A frequent guest with top orchestras across the country, Douglas regularly performs with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, and Houston Symphony, as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, Hawaii Symphony, and the Houston Ballet and Grand Opera orchestras. His collaborations have placed him alongside world-renowned conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Stéphane Denève, and Carlos Miguel Prieto. He has also collaborated extensively with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra in Los Angeles, as well as prominent Houston-based ensembles, including DACAMERA, Musiqa, Aperio, and Loop38.

As a soloist, Douglas has performed major concerti, including Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti, Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D Major, and Ibert’s Flute Concerto. His recordings include Béla Fleck’s “Louisiana” Concerto and Daniel Knagg’s “Swallow’s Wings”, and his performances have been broadcast on NPR and BBC Radio 3.

A dedicated educator, Douglas is an in-demand private instructor and coach. He has worked with students at the Houston Youth Symphony and has taught flutists of all ages and levels in masterclasses, lessons, and workshops throughout the greater Houston area, both privately and as a Young Artist of DACAMERA. As a faculty member for Floot Fire and Program Chair for the Houston Flute Club, his commitment to nurturing and developing young talent has firmly established him as a key figure in the Houston flute community.

A native of Los Angeles, Doug's musical journey led him to study at The Juilliard School and Rice University, where he studied with esteemed flutists Jeffrey Khaner and Leone Buyse. Doug plays exclusively on flutes made by William S. Haynes and is a Haynes Artist. When not performing, Doug finds balance in his other passion—fitness—and soon hopes to complete his first triathlon.
