Hyeonjeong "Hyeony" Choi, (She/Her/hers) is a flutist from South Korea. Currently, she is pursuing her second Master of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, studying under Marianne Gedigian.
Previously, she earned her initial Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music under the guidance of Ransom Wilson. Before her studies in the United States, Hyeonjeong completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance at Hanyang Univ. studying with Gloria Jee-eun Park, the principal flutist of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
In her career as a soloist, Hyeonjeong has garnered notable achievements, including final alternate in the 2024 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, second prize in the 2023 Philadelphia Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and various prizes from numerous national competitions in South Korea. Additionally, she was the winner of the Hanyang University Concerto Competition and performed Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major with the Hanyang University Orchestra.
She has participated in prestigious music festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival in 2018 and 2019, and the Aspen Music Festival since 2023. These experiences were made possible through full scholarships, and she had the honor of performing under the batons of renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Marin Alsop, and Robert Spano. Furthermore, she serves as a substitute musician with both the New World Symphony and the New Haven Symphony.
Continuously seeking opportunities for artistic growth, Hyeonjeong has participated in master classes with eminent flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Karl Heinz Schütz, Andreas Blau, Denis Bouriakov, Julien Baudiment, Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson, Silvia Careddu, Christina Jennings, Mark Sparks, Nadine Asin, Demarre McGill, Philippe Bernold, and Paolo Taballione.
