Kristin Hammerseth is Principal Flutist of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway.

She was a Royal College of  Music Scholar supported by the Anglo-Norse Award on the Master of Performance course studying with Professor Emer Mcdonough, Adam Walker and Katie Bedford. She won the First Prize in the prestigious Norwegian Competition for Youth in 2009, 2011 and 2013, also being honoured with the Musician of the Year Prize in 2013. In 2010 she won the First Prize in the Chieri International Music Competition in Italy, and in 2013 she was selected to participate in the Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan. She is the winner of the Arve Tellefsen Award, the Chess Award, the Drommestipendet Award and the Sarpr Award. She is the only person who has been awarded with the prestigious Rwe Dea Scholarship twice. Kristin has performed extensively as a soloist, and recent performances include playing Reinecke’s Flute Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Mozart Flute Concerto in G Major with Oslo Symphony Orchestra.

Solo recitals have taken her to festivals and Concert Series across Norway and abroad such as the Arctic Arts Fesival in the Northern Norway, Victoria International Arts Festival in Gozo, Malta and Concert Halls in Warsaw, Poland and Northern Spain. Furthering her studies, Kristin has performed in master classes with Philippe Boucly, Philippe Bernold, Andrea Lieberknecht, Sarah Newbold, Wissam Boustany, Jean Ferrandis, Denis Bouriakov, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Ian Clarke, Per Øien, Mathieu Dufour, Adam Walker and others. In 2012 she won a scholarship which enabled her to study in Quebec, Canada with Emmanuel Pahud at the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy.

Kristin frequently works as a guest player with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko), Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (Chief Conductor Edward Gardner), Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (Chief Conductor Christian Vasquez) and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (Chief Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya). She has also worked with the Arctic Philharmonic, Norwegian Wind Ensemble, the award-winning ensemble of contemporary music Cikada and with the Oslo Baroque Orchestra. In November of 2016, Kristin played principal flute in Ravel’s complete Daphnis et Chloé conducted by Bernard Haitink at the Royal College of Music. She recently performed with the RCM Sympony Orchestra at Buckingham Palace with John Wilson and Maxim Vengerov.

Kristin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music where she achieved the highest mark possible in her her final Recitals. She is a former guest student at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where she studied with Philippe Boucly and Natalie Schwaabe.
