Nikka Gershman is a 17-year-old flutist and composer on a full scholarship as the youngest ever Kovner Fellow accepted to The Juilliard School, where she is pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree. In a full feature article and interview, Gershman was recognized as a “Rising Star” by New York’s “Our Town” journal, serving the population of Manhattan.
In addition to playing in celebrated venues such as Lincoln Center and the Vienna Konzerthaus, Gershman is dedicated to bringing classical music outside the traditional concert hall. Using her art to benefit various underprivileged social groups, Gershman performs in hospitals, homeless shelters, and retirement homes. In 2024, she was invited to perform a solo recital in Juilliard’s inaugural “Rush Hour Concert Series” held at the experimental Juilliard Station, a fully-glass studio designed to engage with onlookers from the street.
Gershman made history as the youngest ever Haynes Young Artist by the oldest flute manufacturer in America, and uses her platform on Instagram to inspire young musicians across the world. To date, she has a growing diverse audience of 34,000 followers, with her viewers spanning Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia. Among Gershman's numerous international accolades, the Concorso Internazionale
A Tutto Flauto awarded her the Absolute First Prize (Primo Premio Assoluto), and she was the only flutist selected out of 13 winners worldwide by the Classicalia Global PBS Televised Competition. In August 2023, Gershman was the featured artist on the cover of The Flute View magazine.
She is passionate about the flute as a soloistic instrument and regularly contributes to expanding the repertoire. Her original compositions and transcriptions are in high demand and have been used by the flute community for recitals and diploma examinations.
As part of championing the flute, Gershman formed the Orion’s Bow Trio, a unique chamber ensemble comprised of flute, cello, and piano. In this capacity, monumental pieces such as Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio were heard by audiences with the flute for the first time. The Flute Almanac global journal recognized Gershman as the 2024 “Emerging Artist of the Year”.
